The Holidays At My House

Y'all, we had such a fun Christmas at my house. I was lucky enough to get time off from work, which doesn't happen very often because little old Marjean has not one but TWO managers to keep happy. One is just is just as sweet as he can be, but the other one is this woman who just drives me slap loopy. But that's another blog for another day, dear ones...so let's talk about Christmas.

We began Christmas Eve like we always do...by attending the Live Nativity up at the Penecostal Church off Hog Mountain Road. Those people always do such a nice job with their Live Nativity that our church doesn't even bother anymore. Well, the stampede incident with the donkeys and our church organist may have also had something to do with it.

This year the Pentecostal Church even had a real live baby playing the Baby Jesus! Everyone in our pickup truck just howled with laughter as the naked toddler tried to climb out of the manger as we drove by honking the horn. Come to think of it, he may have actually been a dwarf or a midget or something, because boy, he sure could run.

After the Live Nativity, we all went back to our house where, as usual, the women and children decorated Christmas cookies while the menfolk went out back and shot at beer cans, telling the children they were shooting at Santa Claus and his reindeer. After we calmed down the children, Grandma Spratlin put in her good teeth and read the children "T'was The Night Before Christmas" and we put them all down to bed. I'd like to say it was sugar plums dancing in their heads, but little Leroy got a severe case of the runs from eating too much raw cookie dough and we had to change the sheets and get them all settled down before Santa could come visit!

On Christmas day, we all went over to MeMaw Jenkins' house, where we had our traditional Christmas dinner of pork chops and macaroni and cheese. I brought my signature dish, Coleslaw Casserole, and it was the usual hit. Then, we gathered in the backyard where we exchanged presents. My husband Roy got me matching appliance covers for my kitchen, and a quart of my favorite body splash! He is such a sweetheart.

I hope your holidays were more fun than a pig in a poke...drop me a line and tell me what y'all did!

We sat around watching TV and then got in a big fight. The usual family holiday. Wait, I think that was New Year's. Christmas is kind of a blur.
